Each month, Friends of Residential Treasures Los Angeles (FORT: LA) curates a new self-guided trail, inviting Angelenos to explore the city’s rich architectural heritage. These immersive experiences highlight significant homes, hidden gems, and the designers who have shaped Los Angeles' built environment.
This month’s trail is entitled The Rebel Architects of 1980: From Venice to the World Stage and is curated by Tim Bonefeld & Robert Thibodeau. It explores the radical and influential architecture that emerged in Venice Beach during the late 1970s and early 1980s, spotlighting experimental works by figures such as Eric Owen Moss, Craig Hodgetts, Coy Howard, Frank Gehry, and Thom Mayne. The trail is linked to FORT: LA’s new 12-part documentary series of the same name, with episodes released monthly. Together, the trail and series chronicle how a loose network of architects and artists transformed a scrappy beach neighborhood into a launchpad for global design innovation.
